The mood of Hai shang chuan qi is sentimental, atmospheric, and bittersweet. The plot centers around a reunion, city life, and social differences. It is a foreign, documentary, and historical movie. In approach, Hai shang chuan qi is serious and realistic. It takes place, at least partly, in an urban environment. The setting is China. Hai shang chuan qi happens in the 19th century and in the 20th century. The film received praise at the Cannes Film Festival.
